Default Can anyone help a newbie?

Hi all,

First post...hope you can help me, as I'm getting very confused.

I have removed the fulcrum bearings and removed the bearing cups from the o/s rear hub on my 1994 XJS. I noted that there seemed to be no shims except one single shim and a washer, between the tiedown bracket and wishbone.

The workshop manual seems to suggest that there should be a shim outboard of either bearing as well. My car is quite a late one.

Can anyone advise? I'm tempted to put it back together just as I found it, but would like to be sure. Thanks folks!

Welcome to the forum ScotDoc,

The Parts Catalogue lists one Washer (item 19) and one Adjustable Spacer (item 17). There's 13 thicknesses of Spacer listed but I'd expect these are selected during manufacture and putting the same one back would be correct. Model experts here will be able to confirm or rubbish this!

It pays to lay these things out on paper in the order they came apart and take a photo, so you know it goes back together.

They are difficult to reassemble as they are an exact fit. Patience is needed do not be tempted to use a thinner spacer or your hub will have too much play.
