Sad to see the car in this condition. Great for the XJS to get airtime and recognition but to show it looking like this is like doing a bio on Mike Tyson saying he was one of the greatest hitters but all you are seeing on the screen is a train wreck.

I am not sure anyone but Richard from Gas Monkey would have paid $5000.00 for it in its current state. I thought Richard had learned his lesson after getting hammered at an auction and buying a 1978 Charger for $2800.00 and then dumping it for $700.00 plus fees. All I can say is they must serve pretty strong drinks on the flight from Texas to the east coast -LOL!!!!

I have some cheap business advice for Richard: "next time go easy on the drinks and buy the glove box door for $500.00".

This is where this all got started, it was on "Bring a Trailer" and went from there into Richards hands, if you scroll down and read the comments and follow some of the links to the book on the Record Run it is some very interesting reading, Yate's son chimes in as well as Richard looking for follow-on info (he may need some XJS insight) I know Brock suffers from Alzheimer's and probably can't provide details. I applaud Richard for wanting to collect this piece of history and try to save it from the crusher, bad business decision or good I'm glad he saved it and it puts Jaguar XJS's in good public exposure and lends some credibility to our cars in car circles because A LOT of car people watch that show. If you've time it's worth the look and the link surf....

i actually did try to do it this past summer.

well not to actually break the record, but just try a non-stop run across the country, no sleep, just a case of 5 hr energy and a willing co-driver.

needless to say... that didn't happen. we did make it in 3 calendar days though... with many stops... and "hoods up" and the xjs is still on the west coast. i don't recommend it to anyone.

calvin... good luck if you really want to try to break the record. with today's traffic and police tech its virtually impossible without a team (airborne spotters help) and doing lots of homework.

have you seen alex roy's movie?

maybe you could use xjs owners across the country to run blocker for you leg by leg. i'd do the nyc to PA leg
