Default Can't remove r side door panel

89 xjs convertible. I cant remove r side door panel. Ive removed the botton and switch plate screws. Remover all the pop in fasteners on perimeter of panel. It seem the arm rest assembly is secured and I cant figure it out. Any advise as I dont want to damage panel.

There is a screw under the chrome ring at the front of the handle portion of the arm rest. Slide the ring back, away from the door panel to reveal the screw, but, be careful not to scuff the leather on the handle (easier said than done).

Wrap some duct tape or similar very tightly around the handle portion of the armrest just past the metal ring. The ring itself is held against the door panel via pressure against two small curved wings on a metal plate, through which a large screw is fastened. Gently, but firmly pry the ring back around the curve of the handle, the tape will protect the leather covering. Take your time and you will be able to make enough room to access the screw head. Unscrew it, and you will now be able to lift the panel straight up (it sits on two flat metal tabs at the top of the door frame). Note there will be wires attached to the door speaker and light at the bottom of the armrest, so either disconnect them or place the door panel on something that keeps it elevated and nearby (I used a box.)

Be sure to capture the two flat metal tabs when replacing the panel, otherwise it will be loose and look funny. Guess how I know... %^)

yeah definitely tape it. My drivers side is scuffed up from ignoring this advise two or three times. It really grabs at the door grab. You are missing that one large screw and then the panel has plastic rivets around the edges and a hook on the upper edge of the door. After popping those out lift the door panel up and off.
