That's likely just a chrome mirror wrap. There was a Porsche Boxster running around my city for several years with a wrap like that. Just regular washes keeps it looking pretty good. There is another car just down the street from me, a Cadillac, with a gold mirror wrap like that. No accounting for taste...

You might want to visit Europe. The Mercedes and BMWs of the 70s and 80s certainly came with their share of chrome wheel trim.

Problem is they CAME LIKE THAT FROM THE FACTORY, the US dealers were the ones adding them to cars that didn't have them in order to charge more for them.

I think I have a new-in-box set of XJS wheel arch covers. Stainless steel I think.

Got them from someone 30 or 40 years ago.

Probably on a shelf somewhere and I forgot about them until I read this post.
