Comparing the two 6.0 engines
XJR-S didn't come with outboard brakes even in facelift form. The outboard brakes were introduced at VIN 188105 when the "big-bumpers" were introduced. At that time, Jaguar introduced its own factory 6 litre model and therefore the XJR-s was discontinued. It's just possible that an XJR-S was built after 188105, but if so, I suspect that it would have had the inboard brakes.

Too few of those around to actually get familiar with them.
Since you seem to have a depth of knowledge, Can you tell me which post VIN 188105 were equipped with positration( limited slip ) differentials? I was lead to believe all V12’s were and so were the 4.0 liter Six’s both Sedan and XJS.

All XJS from original 1975 to last one in 1996 had limited slip diffs. There were different types (Salisbury and Dana) fitted over the years, but all XJS left the factory with some form of LSD.
