Default Convertible Owners - How far do your rear windows go down?

I was reading in another forum of a '90 convertible owner who claims that his rear windows will go down 100%, all of the way into the body.

I have three convertibles and none of them allow the rear windows to go down more than 90%. There is always a few inches exposed above the body line.

Anyone know how the windows behaved when the XJS was new? Should they retract 100%? If so, what is the fix for windows that only go down 90%?

He said his was a 1990 model so it cant be H&E.

Interesting thought though. I wonder if the H&E windows go down 100%?

The next time I have one of the window regulators out of the car I will look at the range of motion and the stops to see if it is even possible for the windows to retract completely.

If its possible then it would make me wonder why Jaguar decided to limit the travel.

Awesome car. If I had seen the wheels first by themselves, I'd say "no, not for the XJS", yet on the car they look phenomenal.
I love it when I see a really striking XJS, and your is.

I have never seen a convertible XJS with the rear windows all the way down, plus both windows tend to be leveled at the same height, which leads me to believe that it's just the way they're designed, but why? What's the reason why they don't go down all the way? Anybody knows any details on the subject?
Cheers,

Today I had to repair the window motor on my green '89. While I had the regulator out I took a few pictures.

As you can see, it is impossible for the window to roll down completely into the body. The window is too tall and the stop (see red circle) limits how far it can go down.

I suspect that only the H&E cars have windows that roll down completely into the body.

Well, this explains the window not full down, good info, mate. So next, why did Jag engineers allow this? It does make it look like something is wrong, kind of an odd design compromise

Cheers,

It goes down below the interior trim, that's good enough...

Mine go down far enough where you cant see them. I did have an issue where they did not go all the way down. It was relay related.
