Default Correct convertible top cover?

Gents, When I purchased my 94 XJS, it came with a top cover. I believe this is for the 2+2 type version vs the base convertible option(which I have). Problem is I'm not familiar with how the cover should attach for this vehicle vs the 2+2. My buddy has the 2+2 and it snaps behind the seats, so I understand that. How does it attach for the base version? I see a couple of leather straps on the bottom of the rear "bait locker" area. Someone enlighten me here.

The earlier tops are not an easy change over job, I'm not sure from which VIN, but later tops are so much easier. Up to early 1993 cars with 2 seats and the rear locker box, the rear window is larger than the 4 seat car. Sorry not much help there for ya

I have a 1993 2 seat convertible with the rear locker. For this car the procedure is to first fit the outside of the cover using the 6 loops on the hood itself to engage the matching clips on the cover. Then attach the press studs on the rear quarters ( the paintwork behind the rear window glass on the outside and on the top of the upholstered panel inside the rear window glass. Then you may have two loops on the cover which the straps behind the ends of the rear locker go through and/or two snaps on the small vertical carpeted surface above the back of the locker. If the top has not been fitted recently, it will likely be very tight. You must make sure the top is fully lowered and the fabric and glass has all folded down nicely. Hope this helps. Tim

The cover should have two black rectangular wire loops attached to it at the same places as the straps. The straps unsnap and pass through the wire loops and snap back down in their original locations.

I don't have that on my current cover...here is what is on the rear of the car...If you can send a pic of your setup, I'll see if I can have it duplicated locally. Clearly this was made for a later model XJS.

These YouTube videos may be helpful.

They are the only top replacement videos I’ve ever been able to find. Does anyone know of any better videos or picture heavy walkthroughs? I’m actually getting ready to do a top and headliner replacement on my 1993.

4 pics attached, showing the loop and metal wire rectangle, that the straps pass through, the strap in place and the snaps for the center buttons.

Ahha, we are talking about the folded top cover, not the top cover. Yes, you need to get the top cover fot the 1988 to 1994 one.

this might be correct
