Default DAC1996 needed

Hello. The secondary cooling fan quit and my man tells me I need a DAC1996 diode and a DAC7686 relay. The relay is no problem but finding the DAC1996 diode is proving to be tough. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Stephen

First of all, please add an auto signature that tells the forum what model year and engine you have. You can thank me later for that.

Secondly, if you search these forums for aux fan mod, you find a wiring schematic to automatically activate that fan anytime the AC is activated, which reduces the need for that switch.

Lastly, that wiring schematic could give you a way to add a manual switch for that fan, in case you want full control of it. The downside would be that the fan could drain your battery if you forgot to turn it off. I’m sure there’s a way to solve that problem though.

When this diode went out on my car, the only replacement was $70. I just straight wired it and and also wired the relay to just turn the fan on with ignition, because my temp sensor died. So far I've had this setup with a cheap $20 replacement fan for 6 years.

Is this DAC1329 similar to DAC1996? I have one off my XJ6 for cheap if you want

If the '1996' diode pack is what I thinking it is, it's just three diodes soldered to a board tucked into a plastic box. A week's pay say the diodes are garden variety type...probably 50 cents each. If you're handy with a soldering gun it should be pretty easy.

Cheers
