Hello to the forum! I'm not a Jaguar guy but I am a car guy (C5 Corvette, BMWs, Saturn Sky, Mazda, Toyota, Subaru) and am active on forums for those cars/makes. I have joined this forum to facilitate selling my father's 1994 XJs V12 2+2 convertible. He has owned this car since 2009. I will post a sale thread in the Classifieds once I pass the probation period, but thought I would include info about the car and its story here.
My father always loved the look and style of the XJS convertibles and bought this one planning to restore it - the hood and trunk clearcoat has failed and the interior needs refreshing/restoring. He bought it in 2009 with about 94K miles on it and has put about 3,000 miles since then (currently, 97,246 miles). Unfortunately, my father, who turns 90 soon, is no longer able to maintain his cars on his own any more, and my parents have just moved from Northern Virginia to Williamsburg, Virginia, into a home with less garage/parking space so some of his cars need to find new homes - I've already sold his 1985 Lincoln Town Car. He is keeping a 2007 BMW 650i and a 2009 Saturn Sky, although he rarely drives them anymore, preferring my mother's Toyota Prius when he does drive.
The car runs and drives well and the power top works so it is very drivable. It does have a CEL, which I believe is due to emissions. In Virginia, if there is an emissions problem that the owner has attempted to fix and has spent a certain dollar amount but has been unable to fix the issue, the state exempts emissions from the inspection process. Also, registering the car as a classic/antique would exempt it from inspection. My father was is the process of doing that when it became obvious that this car needs to be sold. The classified ad will be up in a few days, and, in the meantime, I would appreciate comments and thoughts from those on this forum who know these cars well regarding improving its condition, things to look out for/be aware of, and what the value might be (I know it probably is not much).
