Default Deep or Shallow transmission pan

I want to order a transmission filter and gasket. Rockauto is asking if I have a 'shallow'or 'Deep' transmission pan. I have a 95 4.0l XJS. Where would i find this information?

Keesh, is almost correct.

The correct part number for the XJS 4 litre filter is JLM664

DO NOT buy the part number that is quoted on the Jaguar Parts website. This system also drives the numbers that are used by independent suppliers who will be quoting the same incorrect part number. An error crept in about 8 years ago and the number is quoted as JLM2128 THIS IS WRONG and will not fit. I asked Jaguar to correct the error years ago, but it is still there. Your post has prompted me to contact them next week and request again.

Cheers

Paul

Typo. A bit strange actually, my X300 4.0 has the same gearbox but has a different filter than the XJS 4.0.

Keesh,

That's where the error crept into the Jaguar parts system, I think, about 8 years ago, when they updated a number of the systems, incl. the x300. And the x300 gearbox filter number (with the deeper sump) somehow got transposed over to the XJS area. Why the gearbox sump on the x300 is deeper, I don't know. Perhaps the XJS one has to be shallower for ground clearance?

That's what I understood from my mechanic too. The ground clearance of an XJS is 15mm lower.
