Door locks not operating

I own a 93 XJS. Experiencing the same issues with the locking and unlocking the doors. I also replaced the old battery with a new and better one. Doors worked fine for one day. Then it reverted back to not being able to manually open or power open. I had to put a shim down the side of the door glass to work the chrome door lock knob loose. Once I had the doors open, I lowered the glass just enough to gain access IF and WHEN this happens again. I have no clue as to how to fix this mess. Basically, I cannot lock the car with the windows fully shut.

Lots of owners have had similar symptoms. When you turn the key, what happens to the chrome internal lever? Does it move to the open position but the lock not disengage, or does it not move?
It's usually one of two problems - the door lock actuators (you might have solenoids on a 92 rather than the actuator microswitch) or the adjustment of the remote bars from the chrome lever.
You haven't said if you've got a Coupe or convertible. Entry is obviously easier if you have a convertible. However, at least with a facelift XJS, it can be easier to get past the drivers window with something to actuate the chrome remote lever.
Good luck

Robert,
Just a thought:
- Check the voltage of the battery in your remote and change if necessary.
- Disconnect the car battery for 30 minutes
- Connect the car battery
- Get close to the car and point the remote at the right hand part of the body, just behind the door and just above the sill and activate the remote.
That's the best chance you've got of the remote working.
When you operate the door locks with key, what happens? Does the key turn satisfactorily? Can you hear a click from the door? Does the chrome lever open then immediately close? What happens on the passenger door? Does the boot lock unlock when you turn the key?

I removed the door cards from both doors and compared the two. It took awhile, but I realized that I was missing parts BEC8982 and BEC12378
You probably have a missing part or two that has broken off.
I recommend that you go to the JDHT website, open up their door lock scheme and start figuring out what's there and what isn't. It would be much easier if you had a better control to work from, but I'm afraid that's the best it's going to get!
