Would somebody extend their knowledgeable generosity and explain how to remove the Driver side door handle. I was connecting a new clip to the lever and rod and the small piece of lever (made of pot metal) broke off. It would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

 

Chris, not sure which model you have. But on pre facelifts at least and I expect on post, the handle is held into the door from the inside by a bracket = [ shaped bracket that goes horizontally along the inside. Two studs on the actual handle poke through the bracket and are secured by small nuts; the ends of the bracket go against the metalwork of the doorskin, and thus the handle is secured.
To remove the handle, the small nuts have to be undone, and then the handle, once released from its levers, comes out to the outside.
The difficulty, on pre facelift coupes at least. is getting to the small nuts. If you know someone with tiny hands it might just be doable without removing the glass, maybe by loosening the channels, motor etc you might get enough access.

As Greg said, once the linkages are removed, its just a matter of removing the two small nuts that hold the handle in place. I think you put the window all the way up and then reach in from one of the holes thats further away so you can actually outstretch your arm a bit, rather than trying to cram it through the seemingly more obvious smaller but more immediate hole.

 

So how did jaguar do it bearing in mind they produced over 100,000 cars?

 

They put in the door locks and handles before they put in the window! The doors were fully assembled off-car as well.

We are lucky, Brinny. The Jensen Interceptor, I am told, has to have the washer jet fitted before anything else, and I mean anything, either in the dash or the engine bay!

 

Well I didn't know that Greg. Just another reason I'm glad I got rid of the mk2 interceptor and went with a convertible.
