Question Driver's quarter window won't open

1995 XJS - Convertible hood works fine as does passenger quarter window. I follow the manual instructions, but no luck. The driver's side quarter window will not open. The hood is latched, the handbrake is applied, I depress and hold the hood switch. The motor(s) start and only the passenger quarter window lowers. I depress and hold the hood switch again, the motor(s) sound and after the time delay (as specified in the manual), passenger quarter window closes properly. More simply stated, the hood and passenger quarter window operate properly, the driver quarter window is stuck closed.
Suggestions?

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to XJS forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help.

Please add vehicle details to your forum Signature - your profile shows you as having a 2003 XJ8......?

Try swapping the relay between the left and right window. Thats a simple test and should take minutes. After that check power at relay plug. Compare with working side.

I had the same problem. The solution was to take apart the motor and clean the brushes and commutator. The motor has since worked perfectly.

Those rear windows seem to be a problem with the XJS. Mine decide (usually when its about to rain...) themselves when to work or not.

I have a 1990 so not sure if this applies but... One of mine stopped working and it was a mechanical issue associated with degradation of the internal drive rubber thing producing pieces which jammed the worm gear. Diagnosis for me was 12V hitting the motor on cue - voltmeter into the disconnected connector - and, when removed and bench tested, current draw but no movement. There are other threads on fixes for this specific problem but if you need help let me know. i fixed one and within a month the other did the same thing. fixed it too and not had any trouble since.
