Electric Outside Mirrors
Hi folks, the control for the electric outside mirrors on my 96 XJS convertible didn't seem to be working right. The drivers side mirror moved a little but only in one direction. The passenger side didn't move at all. I got a replacement control and initially both mirrors worked but not very well and not in the direction selected. It appears I'm back to just the drivers side working now but it only wants to go down. I'm thinking I should pull the mirrors out to get to the motors and see what happens when I use the control switch. Anybody have experience with this? Thanks
I have lots! The chances are that it is either the control switches or the connectors where the car loom joins the door loom (accessible under the heel trim on the bottom of the A pillar trim).
It is easy to test the mirrors themselves, just unscrew them (careful to ensure the loom does not drop into the door, string it or something) and squirt 12v through each motor from the plug to see if they are working.
