Default Engine dies with any throttle application

Hi everyone!

New to Jaguars, so I have a lot to familiarize myself with. (I have played with a lot of vintage cars however)
I just got a '83 XJS HE. I haven't looked into anything but the car will start and idle, though it seems the oil pressure reads very low. Car is fairly low mileage(70k).
IF any throttle is applied it will instantly shut off. Also the tach does not seem to be reading or any of the other gauges besides oil pressure.
Any ideas? I know the pump was replaced by previous owner including the filter. I plan on going through all the hoses but would appreciate any pointers.

Thanks all!!

Could be the TPS, (THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR) maybe.

Check for air leaks near the intake manifold.

Could be any number of things. Are the throttle disks set correctly?

Which pump was replaced recently? There are a few..

I suspect a bad ground is responsible for the gauge issues. The cluster can be removed as a unit and a new ground added. That often fixes a lot of gauge weirdness.

TPS as stated.

They WILL start and run at idle with the TPS unplugged, so a dodgy (common as cold beer) TPS is read by the ECU as "not available", so what you get is stutter (sometimes) and shut down.

The mileage is way too low, so the TPS is highly suspect at the idle to 1500rpm section.

There are stickies I wrote at the top that may help.

I hsvr d[vofic TPS PDF OI will attach later.

You have a few separate issues, so ONE AT A TIME, and qiuetly and carefully work through them.

Oil pressure, worry NOT, the dash gauges a simply a guide, and not accurate in any meaning of the word.

Some quiet reading.

Many more on all sorts of XJS things. Ask if you want them, stating what it is you seek.

I am assuming you are in the USA?, might pay to add the snippet to your Sig, via the CP tab at the top left, as different markets have different specs, and confusion is the last thing you need.

Example:

USA got the 11.5:1 HE engine (AKA the poverty pack).
The rest of us got the 12.5:1 HE, (AKA the real deal).

Aussie humour there, NO broadsiding intended.
