Default Exhaust Tips

As much as I like the XJS there are two things that I really dont like and want to change;

1. Big Ugly Bumpers put on the US version.
2. Skinny Exhaust Tips.

I will deal with the BUB's when I repaint the car later this year. The exhaust tips I can do now;

I'm not even going to tell you where I got them because they are not a direct fit. I had the cut, weld and drill to make them work.

Compared to the unattractive, skinny factory tips I like these oval's much better.

You came come close to the UK/Euro/ROW bumper look by collapsing the impact absorbers so the bumper beam can be pushed inward about 2 inches. You'll have to remove the impact absorbers, drill holes in the side, and squeeze out the impact jelly goo stuff

Seriously, it that easy to trim the bumpers. I despise the US bumpers. I'm Always thinking about how to change them. I even considered bumperettes.

Its funny the first thing I did to mine after buying it was take it to an exhaust shop and them remove the two rear silencers and replace them with smaller "hotdogs" resonators then change those little awful looking tail pipes to 2" chrome straight tips pointing slightly upwards and straight back.
Could not stand those tailpipes it had on it, I was even contemplating putting on side pipes exiting just in front of the rear wheels but I think there is a law about you can only exit from one side only not both.

Liking the exhaust tail pipes, make the car look much beefier and more as it was intended IMO

Rab ( Kingfisher ) has just done the same to his X308......The OEM exhaust finishers looked small / wimpy, now replaced with ones similar to yours, really suit the car

I guess it was just the fashion, or the way they came at that time?
My X358 had similarly smallish round tailpipes, now sorted with larger ovals more suited to the car IMO

Your new exhaust tips look great and I agree, even the facelift original oval exhaust tips (my car), look rather small, so I did similarly with a pair of Borla chrome tips.

On my previous post I meant to show a picture of the stock exhaust tips side by side for comparison, so here it is. You can see how tiny the stock tips are. Actually, I think that the newer picture is rather distorted; see how the right tip looks exaggeratedly larger than the left one so, for comparison purposes I would use my previous post pics of the newer tips.

Cheers,
