Default Fellow owners - what do you recommend?

I have a mechanically all original 1996 that has only had regular and scheduled maintenances performed.

My question is; what other items should I check or be looking to replace or fix in the near future? Speaking just of the typical issues these beauties tend to have as they age (outside the scope of the fluids and belts).

It runs perfectly and all components work as they should for now (except the a/c, has a major leak).

mine is a different year (1984), but you can use the same procedures, check all ground points and clean. pull all connectors apart and clean, I used electrical contact cleaner. and use bulb grease, small amount when putting them back together

Also, is it a real engine (V12) or the half size, coz that will make a difference to the length of the list.

The basics already mentioned will NOT alter, just the specifics.

It will be a 6. V12 wasn't available in the USA for 1996.

Belts and hoses would be due if they haven't been replaced. No need to tempt a failure at an inopportune time.
Brake line flush would be high on my list

Already performed are: the 2 new belts, new air filter, topped off brake fluid twice until it stabilized (was low when I got it), new hand brake shoes, topped off coolant, oil+filter change, attempted a/c recharging+leak finding (still in progress).
It runs good as is, was well cared for (maybe too well in the sense it was a hands-off, do nothing until needed, nice weather only car for the most part- engine bay is very dirty- never cleaned).

That could mean just about anything. Or nothing. Lets get a little more specific.

Go back over the records and see if and when any of the following have been done

- change differential oil
- coolant flush
- brake fluid flush
- change transmission oil
- replace fuel filter
- repack wheel bearings
- replace spark plugs
- lubricate u-joints and suspension

When I buy a car I assume none of these things have been done...and then do 'em.

My question is; what other items should I check or be looking to replace or fix in the near future?

At 20 years old it surely couldn't hurt to replace the brake hoses. An excellent time to do this is when you do a brake fluid flush

Cheers

Topping off fluids isn't the same as performing a service !

OK, so an AJ16 then.

I am with Doug, and I do EVERY fluid, belt, hose (inc brake, trans, steer) when the toy first comes home. So NO driving until its all done.

Just finishing that now with teh XJR-6 that joined the clan.

I would go back and look carefully at the a/c idler pulley, some are plastic, and it that is teh case, REPLACE it. Steel are available with a replaceable bearing.
