Default Fob remote (1994 xjs)

I have had the battery disconnected on my 1994 XJS for several weeks while traveling, but I had a battery tender on the battery itself. Will I have to reprogram the FOB REMOTE once I reconnect the battery?

THANKS!

Richard

Most probably yes as you disconnected the battery from the car. It might be as simple as pressing the fob button every time (5) the alarm barks, the alarm will chirp when the press has been accepted. :-)

No, you shouldn't have to.

My understanding of the alarm system is that there is a small 6v battery backup pack that should keep the alarm going for a very short time. BUT in my, and others experience is that this battery most probably died in about 1995 and is now anyway NOA. So as you write that you disconnected the battery from the car, then the alarm will be dead and will need reprograming. If you had left the battery connected and just plugged in the battery tender, then most properly you wont need to reprogram .

But anyway you will find out. let us know..........

As far as I know a fob won't loose programming even if you take the battery out of it.
Disconnecting the cars battery is unnecessary when using a Battery Tender.
That might cause the Security ECU to loose a program but I never had that issue on my 94s.

I can confirm that on a 1994 XJS the FOB REMOTE does NOT have to be reprogram after the battery has been disconnected for extended periods. I also found an aftermarket remote that works perfectly with a distance range of "modern" cars for only $13.71 (as of 3.2021):

Hope this will help others. Appreciate also all the posts!
