Default Fpr and no start problems

hi all, I have been trying to get my car up and running after a full overhaul. It was turning over fine but not firing so I pulled 4a plug. This was sparking ok but was dry so no fuel. Cracked the supply on a side and there was fuel upto the fpr but no fuel after it. So fpr main suspect so far. Questions are as I have no knowledge of these, would the vacuum pipe on the end cause it to fail if it wasn’t 100% good? Are they readily available? Are these common fail items? It was ok before I pulled the engine but that was 12 months ago. Is there any way of testing things or common faults. Thanks for any assistance

The Great XJS Prophet of the Southern Cross has spoken! he advised me likewise and all good. I expect he has already explained, but run a top notch flexible either from from the joiner, or direct from the end of the hard line entering the engine bay, to the actual rail join, using the OEM P clip to keep it away from the exhaust. When undone and the ferrule carefully removed, there is a barbed fitting all ready for the flexible and a nice fuel clip.
Also, congrats on the diagnosis!

Hi Greg, How long a fuel hose do I need for this? Is it 8mm?

Thank you.

Graeme.

I would wait and measure the length of hose you need once you get the first section to the hard line towards the back of the engine bay in place, then consider routing and where it will live when done. Bring it up to the rail and only then make your final cut. Good hose is important.

As for the ID of the hose I think it 5/16ths (which can be converted to metrics) BUT wait for smarter folks to confirm this. Your question about ID is important and ya don't wanna get that wrong.

Hi Brinny

There are 2 X Fuel Pressure Regulators (FPR) on your Car one on 'A' Bank and another one on 'B' Bank and neither of these last for ever, so are a fairly common item to have to replace in time when they go wrong

Where I'm sure you will be pleased to know that the one that you don't need and are doing away with on 'A' Bank is the more expensive one of the two, so that's another 50 Quid that Grant's just saved you!

Although of course you still need the one on 'B' Bank to maintain Fuel Pressure and while it may still be OK, if you ever need to replace it 'its as cheap as Chips' £40 (ish)
and in the event that one goes wrong because of a leaking diaphragm inside it

Then your Car may be hard to start because if the diaphragm ruptures or leaks then it wont hold back the ideal amount of Fuel Pressure, so if you find that 40 Quid is burning a hole in your pocket, then you could treat your Car to a New one, just for the hell of it and then keep the old one as a spare

You can get Top Quality 'Gates' Fuel Pipe from a Hydraulic Shop or Car Builders Solutions or Demon Tweaks (more hot tips from Greg)

Good Luck and hope you get her running soon

Alex

Graeme,

As Jason said, fit YOUR hose, where YOU want it, and then cut to suit.

Everyone I did were a different layout for all sorts of reasons, and that made the hose different length to suit THAT car.

8mm is what I used.

Just think 3 times, cut once.
