Default Fuel Injector Hose leak

Hi all,

I spent a great Saturday in NM putting a new AC Compressor clutch on my 90 XJS. The V belts are a real B word to get on.

I started the car to see if the day's labor was fruitful. What do you know, but I spot one of my fuel injector hoses leaking. I attached a pic. Does anyone have a procedure for fixing or replacing the hose?

Thanks,

Tony in NM

In a nutshell....

Pull the entire fuel rail with injectors attached, carefully cut off the old hoses, install new hoses by simply pressing them onto the barbed nipples. Use 5/16" fuel injection grade hose. Don't use the Goodyear hose with the blue inner liner, though.

The small metal cups will likely be destroyed when you remove the old hoses. New cups are available from Jaguar Fuel Injector Service

Cheers

Plus 100% Doug! Do not start the car until done! Also, check the injector harness, if at all brittle, renew it as well.

Thanks for the info. I will get the new parts ordered asap. Just curious, however, what does the little brass caps do?

Thanks,

Tony

The little cups ("ferrules") keep the hose ends from swelling outward. Or that's always been my understanding, at least.

While your at it, you might as-well change all your fuel hoses, and with the injectors off you can easily get to the plugs and dizzy, do a full service.
I used Gates barricade hose 7.9mm and you will use about 3m in the engine bay alone for all the injectors and inlets and outlets. As stated above also check your FI Harness it's probably fryied extra crispy.
Good Luck

Default Fuel injector hoses

Ditto to everybody elses comments, you need to go all the way to the firewall with hose replacements. While you are at it you might consider deleting the A bank fuel regulator and inserting a one way valve as this eliminates a bunch of other problems. The hose barbs on your fuel rail are FIR TREE and are push ons, you do not need clamps but you must be very careful in removing the hoses. I rebuild these using a soldering iron wide blade pushing down to the ferrule to cut and then peel the hoses off. the lengths are also important....as they will raise hell when you go to reinstall if they are not the same in length. 1 3/4" for the injectors from 2-6, 1a, 1b are I believe 3 1/2' check the existing hoses, before you destroy them. E-mail me off line for photos of the check valve line installation, etc. Then check out the hose in the rear wheel wells for leakage or replacement as this is also a fire hazard. You must use high pressure fuel injector line...Weatherhead or similar spec., anything less will come back to haunt you. Use stp or some lubricant when reinstalling the injectors into new VW injector seats available at VW shops. Best, JW.
