Fuel problem on XJS V12

My 1987 XJS V12 has a problem in that it will run OK now and again but then starts to lose power and ping badly as if it is running very lean.
I have had an auto electrician have a look at it and he has checked the engine management computer and the air sensor but both come up as OK
He (and I) are at a loss to provide a remedy
Any ideas

Just an easy question, you are putting premium petrol in the car right?
Not too many people on this forum know much about xjs's I don't think, so this probably won't get a response.
If you try jag-lovers.org I know alot of people on that forum own xjs jags so you should get alot of help just reading thru the archives of their forum, or if you ask.
Hope I was some help

looks like 93xj6 and me are the only ones lurking in this site!!
I'm at a loss too mate! Not familiar with 12 cylinder engines, but the 12 cyl. XJ-S and 12 cyl XJ Saloon are only different in the coachworks, the engines are basically the same. I may be wrong but it sounds like an Ignition problem, (maybe the advance or retard mechanism), not a fuel problem. In other words, if the engine starts and runs ok, then it is receiving and burning fuel. But again, I am not experienced with this symptom.
Suggestion: register at http://motorcars-ltd.com/ and ask the question at the Jaguar forum for your model. There is a technician there called Phil who is an expert at this type of troubleshooting. Good luck there.
