Default Fuel tank re fill from zero

Can anyone suggest how much fuel is needed to fill the system from empty. And by empty I mean empty. The tank has been re lined and all fuel lines replaced, so I need enough to fill the sump , lines , fuel rail , bottom of tank etc. I’ve put four gallons in upto now? Thanks all.

Hi Brinny

Have you tried to Start her with 4 gallons in?

Its Gravity feed from the Fuel Tank to the Sump Tank to the Pump and therefore so long as you've got enough Petrol to fill the Sump Tank up, then that should be enough to get her Started and so 4 gallons should initially be plenty

At long as it gets to the Fuel Pump then you should be in business but it might take a few actuation's (ignition key ON/OFF) to get the Fuel from the Fuel Pump to the Engine

Nothing to Bleed on a V12 so as long as you've done everything else right She should Start on the Button

20 gallons all in, Brinny. The important thing is to measure in the first three or so gallons, so you know exactly how many gallons it takes to extinguish the low fuel warning light, and thus, in use, how many you have left when the light comes on.

Good advice Greg, wish I had it yesterday lol. Ob thanks that makes sense of things. I have only run the pump 2 maybe 3 times upto now so maybe it needs a bit more to fill the system. Thanks to you both

Hi Brinny

The Fuel Pump only runs for about 3 Seconds at every 'Key Actuation' On and Off, so the Pump won't run Continuously until the Engine Starts

'Thanks to Greg' for reminding me how much it cost every time that I fill up the Tank! (Lol)

20 gallons@ around £6 per gallon = £120

How close is the Pound to the Dollar??? Here in the central USA we're paying a little less then $2.00/ gallon so 20 gallons would equal about $40.00 Us dollars. I couldn't imagine paying $120.00 to fill up my car, WOW! I hope they're not close on the exchange rate.

Dude, in the People's Republic of California we're @ $4.00/gallon, so don't tease our fine fellows across the pond who have to deal with even higher tax/regulatory issues built into petrol prices. It would be impolite to overly gloat in the fact that there are certain places in the US where you just pay for the actual cost of gasoline. A polite apology or claiming it was typo would be how I'd go (then thank my lucky stars the next time I filled up).

Back to topic:

I emptied my tank using the fuel pump a few months ago. There was maybe half a gallon left to drain out using the sump plug.

Good Lord guys I had no idea it was that huge a difference? WOW! I'am truly embarrassed, I had no idea, I have thrown several spectacular fits over the price of gasoline! And to realize It would cost me a 156 us dollars to fill up my Hot Rod would just about have me looking for some 4 legged horse power, I mean hay has got to be cheaper??? Doesn't it? Now lets see if we can put things in perspective or if the imbalance continues. I work 40 hours a week as a Transportation Director for the local School District. I'm paid a little over $21.00 per hour, which equates to a little more then $49,000.00 US dollars a year. Which is the lower end of the scale as a Transportation Director, in a major city, Chicago , Dallas, etc would probably be between $80,000.00 to $100,000.00 a year. I would hope paying as much as you all do for fuel you also make more money respectively then we do??? Otherwise your fuel prices SUCK. and I'll never Bitch! about fuel prices again.

Dream on, guy; the average wage in France, before tax and per year is 17,000 euros = 19,000 USD. Average wage before tax in the UK is 26,000 UKP = 34,000 USD. I would say that for a post such as yours the equivalent wage in the UK would be (in USD) about 50,000 USD before tax. Certain things are cheaper over this side, notably health care; but just about everything else is far more expensive!
So I think it is a case of never bitch again!
In my (retired) case, I am restricted now to using my dead-right XJS very very infrequently, basically when a bit of a windfall give some some petrol money. This pains me considerably, I can tell you!

In Australia - the average income is apparently 84K a year - fuel prices in central QLD is presently sitting a $1.21/litre so it takes about $112 to fill the tank. Fuel prices were up to $1.61 a few months ago which meant $150

If that 112 is in Australian dollars, then that makes a tankful about 60 UKP and about 78 USD. Miles cheaper than over here.

Here in Canada we're at 92.9 cents/litre right now, which is about 54p (UK) per litre. I think the tank capacity is about 80 litres, so that makes it £43 to fill that tank.

Doing all the dollar/gallon/metric conversions, that quoted prince of $2 USD per US gallon works out to 41.6p/litre. Outside of the middle East, I believe the USA has the cheapest gasoline in the industrialized world.

I based mine on 93 litre fuel tank. The thing with Australia is the distance we travel and we love our cars. I picked up a friend who flew in from Ireland to Brisbane. We then traveled home, 7 hours later we made it home with a very dumbstruck irishman in the back. When I was young - we use to do 100km round trip just for the milk and bread. That why when I read a vehicle with only a 20k on the odometer - it just does not feel right. Here it is normal to have a vehicle with 300+K on the clock and still going strong. My father's work ute has over 600K on it (has had a motor rebuild though)

I guess we don't realize how different things can be in other Countries. I've never been anywhere except a couple times I went to Canada back when I drove a Semi Truck. Everything there seemed to be on a similar par with the US, as far as I could tell. I'm sure there are several things that are in your favor that help balance the scale, as someone stated health care. I have Insurance with a $9000.00 Dollar a year deductible! Which means until I pay $9000.00 They won't pay anything, and after the deductible is met. Thats $3600.00 + $9000.00 = $12,600.00+ a year, and then it's still an 80% them / 20% me policy. So I pay 3600+ a year, in monthly premiums. for Insurance I basically can't use, unless I want to pay for it out of my pocket. Thank You O'Burrhead. I guess everywhere has some kind of drawback. I shall fade quietly into the background. On this subject anyway. LOL!

PS. The figures I gave for my wages, were also before Taxes and Deductions. Take home is around $ 30.000.00 which is slightly more the half of what I make.

GEEEZZZZ , I can only wish for it to be that reasonable. I work for the school so I'm considered a "State Employee" It's more like a "Shirt tail State Employee". They only cover about 1/4 of our insurance cost, and regular "State Employees" they cover about Half of there's. Then along came "Obama Care" and reasonable went out the window.

Our petrol has come down slightly recently. Its ‘only’ $2.05 for our 91 UL (per litre)
My XJR requires 98 at <> $2.20 litre x 60 for a full fill.
