Default Fully restored (nut and bolt restoration) 1979 XJS Pre HE value?

What would a factory condition Red 79 Pre HE be worth?

I would think, if an auto, and genuinely 100%, something over 17000 UKP real money. A factory manual a considerable amount more.

Thanks for the reply Greg. Do you really think as low as that? I was thinking (hoping) 25k+. The car is literally 100 percent. I do appreciate your feedback though. I will post some photos when its finished next month.

Prices are definitely rising; but real cash selling prices and asking prices are two very different things. Pre HEs are interesting, obviously, but not as attractive a using and driving proposition as an HE. I have a friend who recently bought an absolutely superb HE coupe which had loads, and I mean LOADS of money spent on it, for 16,000.
Also, obviously, how long you want to wait has a bearing, the precise mileage, history etc etc. Also out there somewhere will be the person who wants such a car and nothing else will do. But realistically, high teens is a decent price for an XJS - even if an absolute bargain compare with the cost of getting it decent.

In the UK more people seem to be interested in the pre HE's due to the fact that they are much rarer. Just check the ads to see how many are available. The pre HE's fetch more money than an equivalent HE. A convertible (HE or facelift) seems to trump them both though price wise. This is in my opinion anyway..

That was my impression when I started this project. Thanks for your input.

Welcome to the forum jemuk48,

It sounds like you've put a lot of time and money into this project? A major factor in attracting the kind of figure you're after is going to be history and documentation. Where extensive restoration has been carried out, detailed photo evidence of the condition and procedures together with supporting invoices. Previous owners, service history and MoT records all go to attracting the right buyers and adding value.
