When I got my XJS, the gas cap didn't have a key so I'm driving around with it unlocked.
How do I fix a replacement part number so that I can replace it with a working key.
It looks like i can run down to the auto part store and get a replacement thing that looks like a cylinder.

 

You can find your key numbers from Jaguar Heritage and then just a new key cut.

Would you provide the weblink to the Jaguar Heritage. I had googled it but there is nothing on getting a key or even parts, just a certificate.

 

The key numbers will be on that certificate. Also as a long shot, did you get the original keys with a plastic band that has numbers on it ?

This should fit if you can get a locksmith to cut it to your lock

 

Jaguar Heritage used to run the key replacement service for the classic models. Not sure if they still do it, but they definitely have access to the key numbers in the build records for your car. Even if you're not ordering a Heritage certificate (which you should buy anyway!), if you can show proof of ownership of the car to them, they should be able to provide you with key numbers.

I didn't get a key when i got the car.
I did however purchased a blank Jag key so that i can get it keyed correctly.
