Gas cap failed emission test
#2
My gas cap failed inspection on my 00 S Type - never received any DTC either - purchased one from Advanced Auto - went back to DMV and passed.
Ordered an OES gas cap from www.amazon.com

Every Jaguar I have ever owned has done this....
Ironically, like most I went to the local auto parts store and picked up a stant branded replacement. Took the car back and got it passed.
Two days later I got a check engine light. "Evap system large leak". I was like WTF? Cleared the code put the original gas cap back on, and it never threw a check engine light again. So I saved the "new" gas cap for emissions testing LOL.
Take care,
George

I really don't think the testing guys have a good testing system or equipment. The first time I got my 95 XJ6 tested right after I got it eight years ago the tech guy broke the cap. It jammed in the testor. I had to order one from Jag at $50. Went back to same tech guys and they cleared the code and passed it. I always go to same place and they have never checked the cap again. I always remind them they broke it once before.
