Default Gas smell when driving

Hi all,

I have a 94 XJS Convertible 6cyl. I recently replaced the fuel pump and filter. Got everything back together and when I drive I get a slight smell of gas. When parked and the hot up, I can't locate the smell or the source. It also seems to be strong in the trunk as well, but again I seen nothing that indicates a leak anywhere.

Any ideas you can offer are much appreciated.

dtony, a very common complaint ,,fuel smell in Jag trunk, mine included!

maybe some small road vent when driving, or there abouts!

mine after a drive seems ok, but overnight it returns the next day!

annoying yes, dangerous no.

I don't get any smell when it is sitting or idling. It seems to show up during a drive and particularly during an acceleration. I don't see any leaks or anything spraying beneath the hood or trunk.

Recently replaced fuel stuff? Are you sure it isn't just smell from fuel spilled in that process?

I am sorry to say you most probably have a leak as a result of your changing the pump. Put a bit of talcum powder over the hoes/joins etc, and then take a look at it after a drive.

What will I see after the drive? Should I look under the hood as well?

Thanks,

Unless you changed anything under the hood, I do not think you need to do anything there. The TP should show signs of runs if there is a leak.
