Gasket sealer
I'm about ready to put my cooling system back together. I feel that it would be a good idea to use some sort of sealant on the paper gaskets, such as the waterpump, but I'm not sure if A) That's a good idea, or B)What to use.
Your thoughts?

My late Papa used to use this stuff and when I saw it in the shelf I grabbed a bottle and used it. This, after 2 failed attempts, getting everything back together and starting her up just to find leaks, I used the Indian head sealer and it worked like a charm. It's tough and messy stuff. Gets all over, but I like it for certain things
Just say'n...
Same as Thorsen.
A light smear as a dressing on any gasket.
On its own if no gasket is the flavour of the moment.
I found Grey Hi-Temp by JB Weld, less noticed after the task.
MAIN thing with that water pump is the face of the timing cover MUST be CLEAN, and NO nicks or scratches. If there are nicks and scratches, a little heavier "smear" in that area, fit the pump, let it set for 24 hours, jobs done.

I am a great believer in this stuff, put on BOTH the metal surfaces, then place the gasket, then offer up the pump:

This is like engine oil and beer. Everybody has their favorites.
I'm a real stick-in-the-mud. I've been using old fashioned Permatex #2 for ages and refuse to try anything else! I'm not saying it's the best. I'm just saying it always works well for me.
Cheers
