The 1985 XJS parts car I bought came with an ignition key but no key for the glove box. Of course the box is locked. Its very possible that it has been lock for a decade or more. I cant wait to see whats inside!

Like most of us here, I have bought many used cars. Most of the glove boxes have been empty or just held old documents, ballpoint pens and some coins.

But a few boxes held some surprises! In one I found a $50 dollar bill. In another I found a registration to Vincent Furnier aka Alice Cooper.

So until I'm able to open the box on the '85 I thought it would be interesting to hear from other XJS owners about interesting or exciting things found in glove boxes.

I will post the contents of the '85 box as soon as I get it open. What do you guess I will find?

Mark

No fuel cap nor key. I felt lucky just to have an ignition key!

The central locking key should do the job... Though I have had cars before with 4 different keys... + Ignition.

Driver's door, passenger door, boot/trunk and glove pocket. Luckily my Volvo only has 1 key and 1 fob... And the key can only go into two places: drivers door or glove pocket. No other slots...

My Jag has 3 keys... Doors, filler door and glove pocket, ignition and locking filler cap... Enough to make me angry!

you may have to persuade the glove box open ,

the catch is only plastic onto a small metal clip , and i think it would come undone without any damage to the glovebox lid

good luck

BB

you might find a spare set of keys , lol

On my '88 XJ12, I have a push button in the Glove box that the PO installed. I pressed it gingerly wondering if the ejection seat would launch me. Nah, so far nothing happens that I can discern.

I did find a collection of perished plastic and rubber parts that were original to the car I guess

I found a $500 ring and $7.50 in coins under the carpets of my 89.
That car is paying off.

Jimmy disappeared in 1975 so it would be a bit surprising to find him in a 1985, English built automobile.

My belief is that he sleeps with the fishes.

Not only was there no contents, there was no glove box at all! The insert is missing and nowhere to be found.

So much for my hopes of a long forgotten Rolex or a Moon Rock.

Mine at least had 75 cents lying at the bottom under a few old rego papers.
So I added it to the beer fund, there must be about 10kg of coins in there now.
Lots of glove boxes to fill that big pig. Been filling it with car change only for 5 years.

I know where Jimmy Hoffa is but would have to kill all of you if I told.
Cheers, RagJag, the old Teamster.

I found a ring in an old Saab 9000. Did a Carfax check and tried to find all previous owners. Turns out the ring was a purity ring given to the daughter of the first owner. I sent it to them via post and now get a christmas card from that girl every year... 8 years now. I can't say that I'm always that good but it did reward me in hand drawn cards from the youngest child in her family, Bet.
