Headlight conversion
Colleagues
I have found a set of twin US style headlights from a 78 XJS that I would like to put into my 83. My car has Euro lights.
Is there anything I need to know before purchase, I am unable to physically inspect the lights due to the distance involved. While talking to the seller he was saying something about the mounting? square backed and different?, not sure but I thought these parts are all interchangeable.
Please Advice.

For each side you need the light units themselves, the one piece chrome trim surround that goes on over both lights, the circular fittings that hold the light units to the mounting chassis, and the mounting chassis itself that bolts into the nacelle captive nuts that will be there on your car already.
The mounting chassis is a bit of oblong, stepped left to right, steel framework with two places in it that the light units fix to.
Currently you have a single three connector plug that goes into the H4 bulb on your euro light units, this H4 bulb does dip and high beam. This same plug goes into one of the new light units, the outer one, as does the H4 bulb. The second light unit, the inner one, uses an H1 bulb and only comes on with high beam. On high beam both lights are on high beam (H4 and H1). You need to make up a bit of loom to give a high beam feed to the H1 light. Just make a connection from the existing high beam feed to the H4 unit to do this.

Hi Greg.
Strange that this subject should arise at this particular moment but I have just stripped the quad headlights out of the Cabriolet and cannot figure how to get the chassis mounts out (I want to sell the whole lot). I can see two bolt heads at the outer side but naff all on the inner sides; are they slotted in and how do you access the bolt heads?

Good information on the electrics, did Jaguar make a make a plug in adaptor to fit a standard loom or where they wired completely differently?
The reason I asked about the fitting the seller was saying that he had another chap look at the lights and for some reason he did not buy them because they had a different fitting from normal? He said something about a square fitting frame? because I have not removed the lights I am not sure how they fit, I take it makes no difference US to Euro the fitting of the frames must be the same, this is what I need to know. It is a bit hard to inspect as the lights are simply a mere 4000km away.
Thanks
