Default Help determining possible evaporator leak of 95

Hello everyone,

Over the past few years I have struggled for my AC to work perfectly, but I usually find that after a while it gets less efficient. The car has seen every single component on the engine bay replaced, some of them 3 times like the compressor others more like the expansion valve and the dryer, the delanair system has been tested and is working well, and my mechanic can't find leaks. I have been to 3 Jaguar specialists and the one I currently visit has a great reputation, and no one can make the AC work like I want it to. The only time the car cools perfectly is right after the expansion valve and drier are replaced. It cools perfectly well for 4 weeks then gets intermittent again...meaning it will cool well sometimes at 100 degree temps and at other times it will not. None of the mechanics can find a leak and they all say the pressures reflect the system full. He has tried to put the sniffer by the evaporator as well as a lot of dye in the system to see if it comes out of the drains and it does not. He has pulled a vac on it overnight.

However, at this point the only thing we don't know whether it's been replaced or not is the evaporator. Why?.....well when I first got the car 4 years ago, I took it to a shop that was not a reputable as the one I go to now. I did not know much about the car then, so when he told me I needed an evaporator, I purchased the part and gave it to him along with two new blowers. I know the blowers went in because I got the old ones back for core, but I never saw the center dash apart, so I have no idea if he just kept the part and told me he replaced it or not.

My current mechanic has spend tons of free hours trying to find a leak and testing the delanair system. He has told me the only thing left is the evaporator, and he has told me it may or may not be the problem.

Does anyone know of a way to test that evaporator beyond reasonable doubt?

Thanks

Spikepaga, It doesn't seem to me you could have an evap leak due to no dye being detected coming from it. Just my untrained opinion. Could it be that you are having an intermittent vacuum pot fail? My '96 doesn't have the coldest AC either. I have just blocked the air intake tubes because the recirc flap doesn't seem to close. I am hoping that will allow the AC to be a little cooler as the very hot outside air won't be getting into the cabin.
On another subject I unblocked the little candensation drain tubes. Both had water in them when I inserted a wire. I also wrapped the foam padding in two layers of plastic to keep any water from soaking them. Don't want the floors to rust out.
Luck on the evap problem.
