Highest Mileage V12 on Forum??
Just changed in the oil, in my terribly unreliable Land Rover Disco, as she rolled 325K miles (so sick of Rover / British car jokes by people who are clueless or worse, think everything is an '85 Toyota pickup and runs without care forever - soapbox over), and was wondering, WHO on the broads has the highest mileage?
I wrenched on a car in about '93 (an HE), with about 225K IIRC, one owner, pampered, never had the motor opened up (I think we put two racks in the car and three sets of cats though - HA!)..
Who wins? My current HE is sub 30K, so I do not!

It's a fair bet that most V12 Jags were relegated to 'weekend driver' status many years ago. I wouldn't expect to see very many ultra high mileage examples.
The general consensus has always been 'keep it cool and it'll go forever'
I've read accounts of v12s being opened up at 100-150k miles to discover cranks and bearings still looking as-new and honing marks still visible on the cylinder walls
Cheers

Just chiming in as I too own a high-mile 1990 XJ-S at 162,120 and counting. Still in the process of a year long massive engine, tranny and drive train overhaul, but I can say it's running perfectly smoothly and getting better with each maintenance piece or enthused driving session I lay on it I do wish prior owners had addressed a few oil leaks and maybe kept the engine bay a little tidier, but otherwise, runs better than others' low-miler, garage queens. I have learned in the past year heavy maintenance was rarely done on this cars it seems (rads/hoses/u-joints/suspension/etc). A lot of my OEM parts were still in great shape. Says a lot for Jag. These really were built like tanks, but seemingly maintained like Yugos.

My '94 is a six and it has clocked 110k. I kind of regret having used this car to participate in the "work commute" for several years. It has a very durable engine, although it already has had a head refurbishing, back when the head was ported and polished. I expect it to breeze by the 200k miles and (way) beyond.

My '86 HE had 242K kms when I parted company with it.
Wifes XJ12 1976 (Sir Arthur in my garage) has 540000kms, and is on its second transmission (BW12), which became a 2 speed at somewhere around 300K. I did the output shaft bearings at the same time. Now owned by a collector in Alice Springs, who still drives it almost daily. Spoke to him 2 days ago for Christmas, and it is still strong as an Ox. The engine has NOT been opened up, we are simply not that brave/stupid, it runs on 12 cylinders, what more does a mere mortal need.
