Default Hood Part Info

Where do you get the rod ball fittings for the hood struts on a 77 XJS?

They don't use a ball and socket mount. The hood struts have eyelets.

Ok, I talking about the piece thats bolts to inside of the fender under hood. Its gray colored piece that you run bolt through to attach the hood strut on the inside of the fender.

Look in your parts catalogue. If you do not have one buy the DVD for your car from JDHT.com. It has service and parts info.

i recently replaced my hood struts. only one was there when i initially bought it and was using half a pool cue to prop the hood up. bolts and strut were missing. i just went to my local auto parts machine shop/hardware store and bought the bolt, sleeve, and nut that worked and voila. be sure and match your threads though.
now i just wish i'd have bought more pressure so i could do the automatic lift hood without the hook.

have to be careful about too strong of a lift support. Some have spent hours saving a few bucks by buying a generic version or one from another vehicle. Hoods will bend when closing if they are too strong. Personally I can't understand the obsession of some that are always trying to find a different part that will work when you can buy the correct one.
