Default Hoses

Any advice on replacing the hoses please lads. Is it best to buy silicon and would you buy a kit or individually? Thanks.

Honestly a Manners kit for about 70 quid is in my view quite OK. If you go to silicone, then silicone classic hoses, somewhere in Leics, are the only ones I would trust, but double the price; AND you need Mikelor clips with them, AND you need to tighten them up after a few hours of running after first fitting them - which is not at all easy on many of them.
The best thing to do, IMO, is to buy a kit,; but also buy a length of top notch Viper silicone hose of the right diameters to cut to length to do the three crosspipe hoses with. These get a huge amount of heat and silicone for them is worth it I have found, as when renewing them, the normal ones always look on their last legs.
The normal kit elsewhere will outlast you unless you are putting 25,000 miles a year on the car.

I'm not sure I've gotten comfortable with the sudden and spontaneous ruptures silicone hoses provide, and for quite a premium.

The standard type hoses seem to last a mighty long time and are more apt to give warning signs before imminent rupture.

That being said, if there are specific hoses on a v12 that would benefit from silicone, then have at it!

What about something completely asinine, like sleeving a silicone hose...nah, nevermind, I feel foolish as I even type it.

Just make sure the silicone is reinforced with textile... As soon as silicone gets a certain pressure, it will expandiert and burst. Have had it happen on a different car before.

Everything I learned about replacing hoses, belts, radiators, and thermostats, with an extra bonus question on the hood shocks:

Do the crosspipe and all the non-engine heater connections you can before dropping the engine back in.

I bought a kit about 6-7 years ago and it is still nice and supple. If you know you are tossing old hoses, save yourself some aggravation and just cut in line with them using a razor blade to make removal easy, this may even be necessary are difficult hoses, like the heater hoses.
