Question How much do you think my 1990 Jaguar is worth?

I know it hard to take a guess, but I plan on putting my Jaguar up for sale and dont know where to start. Its a 1990, with 88k miles. The V12 starts/runs really smooth and I would rate it a 8.5/10. It was also repainted and is very glossy with only minor dings. I would rate the exterior/paint a 9/10. The interior is missing the correct carpet, with some gauges/functions not working. Heated seats dont work, the door panels may need replacing soon, a/c doesnt work, speakers need replacement, and the convertible top is missing (the frame is there though). I would rate the interior and convertible top/a/c a 5.5/10. The rest of the drive train (transmission/steering/wheels/tires are ok at about a 7/10. Title is clear and free of accidents. What do you think would be a good price range to ask for this car? I know the market isnt exactly looking for V12 Jaguars right now, so let me know what you honestly think I could fetch for it.

I hate to tell you the awful truth, but I did spend about 6 years as a used Jaguar dealer...

This sounds like a $3kish car if you put it on eBay. a NICE one is worth about $5k-6k wholesale and as much as $8-9k retail.

Problem is, I could see spending $4k+ to turn this into a car that's worth $9k retail, and even then it's been repainted, how nice is the paint job, why was it repainted? Any rust? etc..

Jags with problems do sell, but they sell for pennies on the dollar.

No top, no A/C, gauges not working, 88K miles? I think more like $2K. If you want to make the argument that the top won't cost much to fix, then put one on before you try to sell it.

I'm no expert on Jaguars, although I am a licensed auto appraiser and I hate to be a pesimist but I wouldn't only be worried about the problems you've listed but what about the problems you haven't seen yet? I.E. why are the gauges not working? Why is the AC not working, how bad is the paint and interior, any rust or water damage issues? How about the underside? There could be related or additional issues. Re paint, door panels and carpeting could mean the entire interior needs replacement and possibly a new paint job although it looks pretty sharp in the photos. It's a shame because it sure is a nice looking ride. The highest priced 1990 convertible on ebay is listed for $7,200 with 64k miles on it and that is said to be in near mint condition with everything functioning properly. You might be well advised to hang on to this machine; spend 3,000 to 4,000 to bring it up to code and then if you consider selling it; it may fetch a decent price for you. Take it to a few shops and get some estimates before throwing in the towel on it...

Wow, you wear alot of hats.I'd be pretty certain this guy has sold his car by now, he likely took the first attractive offer. This was a car that had been dormant for quite a while, and he probably bought it for $1000 or less. A used top and a few days on minor maintenance and cleaning, and he probably was quite satisfied with a $2-3K net profit. Didn't even bother to find all four wheels to match.

If you've been researching XJS, how do you figure it will take $15-25K to buy one? That would have to be the most rare and low milege example imaginable, and one I would be reluctant to drive regularly for enjoyment or commuting.

I just paid 3800 US for a nice together example. 118K and it has seen a better day- but i will tell you that all the ones i was looking at were 7000K plus. The guy wanted 4800 and I negotiated. I have been doing little things to her, and she will be priceless when i am done-not valuable sell wise-but I am not going to sell it- I love this car! Had 3 others but not a Cabriolet. People still look at you with envy. Class is a Cat.
