Default How much is your XJS worth?

Yesterday, a 94 XJS convertible sold for $24,750 on Bring A Trailer.

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1994-jaguar-xjs-6/

Just wondering if prices are finally starting to rise.

A Facelift XJR-s sold here in Oz for over $80k yes that's $80,000.

I have noticed here in Oz that XJS prices are on the rise, you used to be able to buy a reasonable XJS well under $10k, not any more, these reasonable cars are now asking $15k or more.

That bringatrailer auction was an exception even for bringatrailer. They seem to sell one every couple weeks, for substantially less money.

Past XJS auctions:

I still go by the formula that my Jags are worth a little more than half of what I put into it. :-)

At the end of the day, that's it !

And that car, on that day, was worth that much to that buyer.

From a quick glance it looks like the last $8000 or so was a bidding war between just two people. It would be interesting to see if the results could be repeated next week, or in a non-auction format.

That particular scenario "IMO" would be the buyer has big money, don't know what or care about the XJS low value and "just wanted that car". In other words, "the seller just hit the big five lottery". Ebay and Craig's list are nowhere trying to sell XJS's. The buyers are after big bargains, they remind me of a big auto Flea Market. I believe live auctions are the way to go, just my opinion.

It seems that the US is the only place where XJS values haven't shot up in recent years. Of course, that is partly to do with the number of cars that were exported out there, but it may also be to do with preferences or the general state of the classic car market. In nearly every other country, XJS prices have been chasing up in the last 24 months. I'm not sure if that's a good thing but it does mean I feel slightly better about any money that I spend on my car!

I think a more interesting question is "How much have you invested in your XJS? Including your labor."

But I suspect that, like myself, most of you do not want to do that calculation!

But even those who have totted the expenditures don't really care, I can assure you.

We do it for love

If I were to add up all the hours, expenses, phone calls, etc., I'd be somewhere around 100k EUR when I'm finished!

That's a different car, the one I was referring to was for sale in Perth.

little off topic , good friend car guy just bought a 1980 Porsche 928 ,manual shift, running for $1500. dollars, not a perfect car but its a Porsche.

but shows even other respectable sports cars are not worth a damn, in USA!

i have had so many cars and motorcycles ,boats just given to me to remove from the property, is it USA mentality or what??

They're just too darn expensive to bring up-to-snuff.

Of course, if you're not really concerned about being up-to-snuff, who cares ?

And that is why it is getting harder formyou guys to find a good car... Not kidding. I live near a car transport company which only deals with imported classics from the States. Their storage site is FULL of classic European AND American cars, be it sports, muscle, luxury or what not, they are here. And the reason? Because good cars are cheap. I saw a truck with 4 XJ-S on it a few weeks ago. Coupé, convert., cabrio., facelifted coupé. And they all looked stunning. Floor pans rustfree (I was sitting in my XJ8 and could see underneath from where I was). Bodies dentfree.

And these cars couldn't cost any more than about $7000 a piece. They then go on sale for like €25.000-35.000.

The Posche you mentioned Ron, the 928, they cost megabucks here now. Any 911 (even the first watercooled ones) cost around €40.000. Then come all the Benzes. A reimported 600 Pullmann will set you back about €70.000.

But then the same goes for your classic muscle cars. Challengers, Chargers, Chevelles, Roadrunners, ... The good ones are sold to Europe. People will pay more for them so they buyers/purchasers in the States cannpay above asking price and still make money...

"How much have you invested in your XJS? Including your labor."

Every time I try to add that up, my common sense gene goes "lalala LaLaLa LALALA LAHLAHLAH" until I stop.

But I did add up what I could get if I sold all my Jaguars and bought a reliable fuel-efficient normal car. I would have enough money to buy a nice new well-equipped Volkswagen Jetta with personalized plates 'BORING'. I am so lucky I am not normal.
