Default Hydrauic flexible lines.

1996 XJS. Is it just me or are Jaguar flexible lines failing sooner than they should. I am speaking of tranny coolant lines and power steering hoses. Sixteen years and 88,000 miles doesn't seem to me such an exreme time.

Haven't had the power steering lines leak yet, but the tranny cooler lines I already had repaired on my 95.

The (motor) oil cooler lines and o rings (by the oil filter) failed on mine as well. Those I was able to find new.

Is 16 years too soon? Don't know. My mothers 98 Altima's only leak has been on her cam cover gasket, on the other hand my 04 Mercury Sable is leaking motor oil and power steering fluid out of multiple places...... all cars have been owned since new . ....just depends on the car.

Do any of you know how much pressure the tranny cooler lines run under?

Ready to be corrected, but I have a feeling none. I think it returns to the sump.

the power steering lines typically fail in the middle. This is because the lines make a basic arch and come to a point ( the most stressed part) right next to the exhaust manifold. They are made with decent quality but the power steering lines are under a lot of stress from heat.

When i replaced my HP line i got it made at a shop in sections so if one part breaks i can replace just one line instead of the whole thing. I also wrapped in up in heat wrap to protect it.

not sure about the tranny lines

Thanks guys. The cooler lines do have some pressure because the fluid squirts out of a broken line pretty hard. I replaced mine with 4,000 psi pressure hose. That should take care of it. I also re-routed the lines along the right inner fender. I couldn't get the old ones out in one piece. The little oil pan bolts that hold one of the lines would not come out. I felt they would wring off before loosening. I will now replace the power ste4ring pressure hose and the oil lines to make sure I don't have any more fires.
