1990 xj12 Will not start. Help!!
HI, I have a 1990 XJS12 Convertible with 19k miles on it. I pulled out of the garage to wash it, since it had been sitting for a while I left it running while washing. After about 20 mins of it running fine I heard is slightly sputter, it straightened out after a couple of seconds then 5 to 10 seconds later It just shut off as if someone turned the key off. Fuel pressure is fine, fuel pump is ok. I put a small shot of starting fluid in the air intake and it fired up for a second or two. Any ideas on what the problem night be?

If it runs on starting spray then you're obviously lacking fuel...which makes me wonder how you determined the fuel pressure and fuel pump are OK

If fuel delivery and pressure are OK that leaves us with injector pulse. Often on Marelli cars the crank sensors die and the injectors won't pulse.....but that's just one possibility.
Do you at least have supply voltage to the injectors? Do you have a test meter or test light?
This really belongs in the "XJS" section
Cheers

Mike,
If you fire and run on starting fluid, you have a fuel/fuel delivery problem. Check voltage at the injectors to see if they are getting a firing signal. How old is the fuel?
Oh, please don't use the starting fluid again, throw it away.

You might have some water in the gas tank (if the car has sat unused for a few months there will be condensation in there) also when washing the car some water might have entered the tank if the drain at the filler door is plugged up.
