Default JD159 Homemade Airbag Disarm Tool

Easy Peasy.

Go to a hobby store, or some hardware stores and find the K&S Metals bin. Buy a 1/4" x 0.014 round brass tube. I think it comes in aluminum as well.

Pack one end with some plumbers epoxy putty.

Push the end with the putty into the D-Shaped pin and pull out. In about 10 minutes the epoxy will be hard enough to use. After the full 24 hour cure, it should last forever!

You can also slide in a 7/16 wood dowel in the tube after whittling down one end, but I'm not sure it would last as long.

I will try dripping some solder into the bottom edge of the tube as well!

The key here is the 1/4" tube with the 0.014 thick wall. You can probably go thinner, but I don't believe the thicker wall will fit. (copper and refrigeration tubing will be too thick)

The 6mm tube should work too, in case your K&S bin only carries metric.

I Also made up the "special tool" ...l drilled a 5mm hole into a bolt, smashed one side with a hammer to make the hole look like a 'D' and Bobs your uncle and the pin turns, don't forget the small grubscrew locking the pin in place.

How it's the tool used? Does it turn or move. Have not yet pulled the wheel out to see what need to move.

It's basically a special socket used to turn a screw with a "D" shaped head.

Thanks all.
Knowing that it just unscrews 1" was the key to the knowledge that then allows the bar to slide over and allow the 13mm bolt to be removed.

I found though that a 4mm hobby wrench was able to turn it. Further examination showed that a 3.5mm slit cut in a bolt allowed it be turned easily.

Thanks again.

malc4d,

No, the passenger airbag is pre-tensioned by pivoting on brackets which brings its arming pin into position. So it's easier to disarm, but an absolute b*****d to get to as you have to remove the whole dash fascia.
