I have scoured the web for images and even parts books available to me but cannot ascertain whether a bracket was available or how it was fitted to the rear of the headlight mount / bowl. I know for sure it goes here but I'm doing the measure 100 times before cutting thing, I have made a bracket but I'm not convinced by the plan since it was created in a way that requires the tank to move toward the engine about 25mm from where it is seen in the image below.
What I cannot decide is whether the peg at the bottom of the tank was bushed into the chassis or was located in some form of bracket, I suspect the latter, if it was bushed into the chassis rail the filler hose looks like it would need some sort of heat insulation but this seems the most likely because of the top mount locations.
Does anyone have any parts book that lists this bottle and associated parts or even pictures of one in situ.
Certainly answers some questions, the mount they used looks like it will be a whole plate on the back of the headlamp surround / mount - probably spot welded - the bracket I've made up doesn't go all the way up but I can see that may add strength as the bottle is quite heavy when full.
It is apparent from that image that they used the hole where the vacuum line goes on the older cars for the electricals. It does look like there is a hole in the inner wing (fender) for the filler neck so maybe they did put a hole in the chassis for the tanks bottom peg too.
Sorry but can't see any obvious panel or bracket to support washer bottle in my parts manual. Maybe somebody has a car in bits and could photograph for you? Your custom bracket looks very solid.
On my car the wiring to the pump passes through a grommeted hole in the inner wing just below the bottom of the black filler hose. Looks like some lighting wiring uses the same hole. The filler hose passes through inner wing as per your photo
At the end of the day you just have to find some way of supporting bottle and plumbing / wiring in. It will all be covered over by closure plate.
Appreciate the effort, I think the lower boss on the tank must penetrate the chassis rail, pretty sure that's how I will approach this now, I don't think a 20mm hole will weaken it significantly.
