The Jag sprang a leak in the radiator overflow tank. No biggie, I can fix it later when I come back from vacation. We're leaving Friday.

My Tracker (everyday driver) just lost the power steering and something broke loose underneath. Possibly the sway bar or the links. No problem, I'll fix after vacation. Fortunately I still have a couple other vehicles, one of the advantages of owning a farm and having 3 driving adults living in the house.

My daughter calls me..."dad, what color is antifreeze?"...I told her it's the color of money. Her radiator just crapped out. Okay...vacation...soon.

Took the 3/4 ton Dodge to work last night, barely made it home. The exhaust fell off and shortly after that the waterpump died. It went through 6 gallons of water in 20 miles.

Finally got in the driveway with the steaming Dodge and the vet is parked beside the barn. One of the horses stepped on a branch and drove a stick so far into the hoof it hit the bone. Emergency surgery right there in the barn. Hoof is better now, but needs to be flushed and packed 2x day.

Vacation is officially cancelled!

sounds about like me. the 3 in the driveway are all mine. the white one in the grass is one i just bought so i would have something to drive while i fix the other 3.

 

It sure would be easier if you could just drive a horse up on a lift to work on them. Instead we had to partially sedate her and I held her foot up while the Doc removed the 1/2" thick, 3" long branch. Let me tell you that when a 1200 lb horse decides to lean on you, it isn't so good for the spine!

It's really too bad, I was looking forward to driving around Mystic Conn. in the convertible this weekend!

 

Same luck here the month I bought my XJS. Break off the front brake lever on my motorcycle trying to keep from laying it down in the parking lot at work 45 miles from home. Hitch a ride back home with a coworker, get truck and trailer and bring bike home. Order a brake lever and set of front and rear pads. Notice that the belt for the belt drive is missing teeth. Go to order belt and rear drive as the teeth are worn on it. New belt is $400 and haven't even priced the sprocket yet! While price shopping, find a chain conversion kit for $188. Order, it arrives and that weekend install everything.

Following Monday night, while riding down the interstate at night to work, I hit something (turns out to be a short piece of 4x4 lumber). Bike pulls an Evel Knievel, goes airborn for a bit and lands, shimming like crazy. Pull over, and the front tire is flat. Turns out it's flat because the front wheel is bent and broken. The item I ran over rode up my rear tire and actually snatched my licence tag off the back of the bike. Road Ranger goes looking for my tag, finds it and the 4x4. Call tow truck and have bike towed. Find a used front wheel on ebay, purchase it and order a new front tire.

Day before I go to pick up my XJS. Truck radiator springs a leak in the parking lot at work (why does everything break at work, for once can't it break at home?). Decide instead of calling a tow truck, purchase 2 jugs of antifreeze, fill it, fill the jugs with water and drive it home...pulling over periodically to check the level. Get truck home, order radiator.

Got the XJS the next day. Drive it from Sarasota to Port Saint Lucie. Half way the hood decides to pop open. Lucky I had a bungie strap in my bag to tie it down. Tires are worn out and dry rotted. Pray I get home with it. Get home, shop for tires online and order.

So, I have 3 vehicles, all with parts on order and I'm driving the XJS on bald dry rotted tires 100 mile round trip for 3 days until stuff starts coming in. To the XJS's credit, tires never went down and it didn't start breaking down (rear brakes and fuel pump and main relay) until I got the other 2 vehicles back on the road.

I have no quorums with my XJS. It's been quite good. When I get out of work in the morning I'm going to pull the tank and see if I can braze over the hole. If so, I'll be using the Jag as my major mode of transportation until I can fix the other vehicles.

I started to joke with my wife that the only vehicle we have that isn't having an issue is the lawn tractor...and then I remembered it wouldn't start!

lol. the white grand prix in the center is the one that ive put 2 transmissions and 2 trans rebuilds since june of last year. just finishing up my second rebuild today.

the purple one blew up the transmission pump like a day after the white one blew up the input clutch pack.

 

But your XJS is now running like a charm?

 

no. my XKE manifolds and SU carbs should arrive today. EXCITED!!!!

 

If that does not work, I suggest Flintstoning your floor boards.

I thought I was having a bad day. I'm sorry about your horse.
My XJS caught fire this morning. My white XJ6 sovereign is on jack stands, the steering rack broke off it's mounting bolts. The e320 is leaking anti-freeze from the water pump and if I didn't dive in and do that head gasket on my black xj6 vdp that would have been inoperable as well.

Troubling issue is, you would have thought I don't work on these cars!

 

 

i suppose there always the horse and buggy.... oh wait.
