LED dash light conversation mess
Hey guys!
Well under the catagory of “can’t leave well enough alone” I decided to replace my rather dim instrument lights with LED. All went well with great improvement to the barrel gauges but the speedo and tach were unimpressive. I pull the cluster unit for further inspection only to find no clues. After reinstalling the unit I have NO gauge lights. Idiot lights work normally. I bypassed the dimmer with no result.
I have confirmed proper ground. Also using an outboard 12 VDC power source found the lights work fine. It appears that there is no power from the gang plug to the unit it’s self. Checked the main fuse. Good. Is there a relay or hidden inline fuse? Any help or idea be great appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Almost certainly one of the copper slightly sprung connectors on the multiplug is not making contact properly. In your case the 12 volt feed to the lights. It is very easy to get these bent out of their proper place when replacing the multiplugs into the back of the unit.
The main gauge lights have small green filters which are best removed completely, but you have to separate the front plastic piece that carries the lenses from the instrument pack itself to get at them. Then your LEDs, or 5 watt push fits in place of the 2 watt originals, will give good illumination.

There is only 1 fuse main fuse panel no7 for all dash/console/radio lights.
If the centre console and gear selector lights are working then the fuse is good.
There are 3 outputs on the dimmer check you have the wires in the correct position, the Red/White wires are the outputs, Red/Blue is 12v input.
