Talking LED Headlights for XJS

I recently replaced my old 9004 (US style) headlights and after about 300 miles on these I whole hardheadedly submit for your approval.
No more dull - yellow - dim - dangerous road illumination .Approx $50 USD per pair.

You've been around here long enough to know that we're gonna need pics of them in action. Don't make us break out the emojis.

In what way would my "approval" make some kind of difference?
Would you immediately remove them if I disapprove of them?

OK, coincidently just the other day I was reading about LED car headlights because I was thinking that, since so many new cars come with LED headlights nowadays, they'd be pretty much "proven" by now.
Not that I'm still driving my '94 XJS in the dark because I have already replaced them with HID lights a while back, which provide beautiful illumination to night driving. I have them very carefully and patiently aimed and I have tested them driving another car in the opposite direction and I am absolutely not blinding anybody with them.

But, going back to LED's, since LED's have practically taken over the illumination world, including new cars headlights, I was reading about the fairly high heat that they produce and that some even come with a fan to cool them down. Are yours heating up that bad? One thing that confuses me is why do they get so hot if the only thing that causes heat is high current, yet, these lights generate a bad lamp warning precisely because the car sees that they're not consuming enough current, what gives?

Well, I hope you don't get too many disapprovals so you can keep them in the car...LOL
Take care.

Cheers,

Yes - These have fans on them and no notice of extreme heat build up with drives of over 1 1/2 hours. Initially the car "thinks" there's a light out on start-up and within a few seconds it goes back to "OK".

I used LED rear backup lights.

i was going to do full LED interior (aside from the one that needs tge polarity thing) anyway...stupid supplier sent all wrong bulbs so sent back. Rear lights are correct and at least 3x brighter.

Very interested in LED headlights as mine are half dead one is gone out.

Damn, not a single picture of these LED installed....tail or front!

I briefly considered interior upgrade, but the temperature tends to be too cold.

I replaced the warning bulbs over the dash and moved them close to their viewing window. They worked fine and can be read easily in daylight. The headlights are a different story. The beam pattern on a 1993 model is refracted differently because of the location of the filament in the bulb and the the outer lens cover. The cover focuses the beam for high and low. i could get high or low beams, but not the two at the same time. When they work properly the LED's provide outstanding brilliance!

RonBros - how did you take apart your XJS headlight assembly? Mine is a 77 XJS 'euro' glass lens with original white sealant

carnage,

The headlight is not designed to be dismantled. Most people who have tried to remove the glass have ended up breaking it. And new glasses or headlights aren't available so go very carefully if, foe some reason you want to try and take the glass off.

Cheers

Paul
