Are you *sure* it isn't in the radiator? Take another peek. RH radiator tank, about 1/3 way down from the top, perhaps?

If not there then perhaps the metal header tank mounted on the left side of the engine bay?

Cheers

The low coolant light sensor on the HE is on the header tank on the US drivers side inner wing, just aft of the radiator and headlight nacelle. You will see the wire going to the sensor. Is this tank topped up?

Well pulled it out of the garage today, parked it and put the cover on. Its going to be a month or so before I drive it anyway (Alaska) but looked on the coolant tank and radiator again for a sensor wire. don't see anything that looks like one. cycled the heater on and off, cold-hot, the ac has not been recharged yet so the compressor don't kick in but light still flashing away. hmmm

Did you open the bleed valve at the top left of the radiator? You could still have an air lock in there. Open both caps and the bleed valve and I bet that the level drops.

According to the Great Palm's book, sub-section on Cooland Level Sensor, the HEs in 1982 had the CLS on the front of the radiator, RHS, and it is very hard to see unless the hood is off! (Maybe removing the rad top panel would do it?). The sensor was moved to the header tank on the inner wing by 1985 models.

He suggests moving it to the header and says how to so so.
