Default Lucas coil replacement

Just wondering if there is any other part number for a single coil to replace the two coil lucas setup (one coil to distributor, one wired in synch and blanked off) besides the DAC-6093?

I use a Bosch MEC717 on all mine, and some others.

That is a Bosch Australia part #, but it is basically an "electronic" ignition coil, with low impedence to allow for fast charge time.

Very simply put, these types were not around in the early '80's, so 2 "points style" coils were used to give the charge time allowance.

The coil I use is standard on a lot of Nissan, some Toyota, and is commonly known down here as a "universal electronic style coil". I have Kodaks of mine in-situ if needed.

I noticed that DAC6093 is not rather cheap online, about $55 shipped. Do we have single coil users here and is there any noticeable advantage to converting from my classic, dual coil setup?

The only reason Jaguar used dual coils was in the higher compression HE the single coil struggled to provide enough spark at higher RPM. Not a problem with lower CR. BTW These are the same coils that powered monsters like the MGB.

The idea behind the dual coils is that as you reduce the impedance and inductance the coil will charge faster, it is interesting that JAg only paralleled the primarys not the secondarys.

So in a nutshell a single coil will perform as well if it is speced correctly.

If your original 2-coil ignition is working well there's no advantage to changing to a single coil.

If you have a single coil system there's no advantage in changing back to a 2-coil system.
