Made my own cup holder...
A couple of weeks ago I picked up a coffee and headed to work. I thought I had the cup balanced on the ski slope as I backed into my parking spot. Oops, fell onto the floor and started pouring out. I decided to try something. I had some scrap wood and went about making a cup holder that fits into the ashtray. Take a look. The bottom of the cup sits on the edge of the center console. It holds a medium coffee from McD's and that's all I need it to do.
Looks pretty nice. Good job.
I've been kicking around some similar method for a cup holder. I'm a competent steel fabricator, but wood...not so much. However, wood definitely looks more appropriate and would weigh much less.
Perhaps I need to rethink my approach. Thanks for the pic!

I've taken a X300 (is that a XJ12/6 ?) armrest Ebay) with the cupholders and cut about 3/4" off of the back. Had to play with the hinge a bit, Pauls had a new cover in dowskin and my trimmer fitted it ....and presto. Looks like it should be there.
