Major fault and oil light in 88 xjs 12
My father-in-law went to meet his maker in 2006. He had an 88 xjs-12 which has been in storage since then. I got it out two weeks ago and have been babying it ever since.
Well, yesterday I decided to take to the highway and let her open up. I accelerated to over 100 mph. She felt like she was finally alive again. A little shimmy from the left front, but I'm assuming that's air/tire related.
Anyway, the question. About 20 minutes after my warp speed test, the oil pressure light slowly blinked its way on. And there's a light on above it in the "red major fault-danger will Robinson" area. My first thought was that she needed some oil, so I added a quart of fresh 10w-40. Wiper gauge reads full now, but it didn't affect the light.
I pulled the battery cable to let her sit for a few hours. I've examined oil pressure gauge and it seems OK...there definitely is pressure.
The car seems to run good, no indicators that something is amiss. So before I take it to the dealer, does anyone have any thoughts about the major red fault light and oil pressure light?

Update
Ok...let the thing sit. When hooked batt back up, the red major fault light is on, the radiator light is on, and the oil pressure light is on. The oil light flickers and goes out when I rev the engine...the gauge reads 20-45, so I think that's about right, I can add some anti-freeze...but what the hell does that big red light mean?

Separate senders, the fact that the gauge is reading pressure indicates that the 7psi sender for the oil pressure warning light is your only problem.
The only thing that is accomplished by disconnecting the battery on a 1988 XJS is erasing the memory for the radio and the trip computer. No other microprocessor functions will be affected, that procedure for rebooting later Jaguars is not relevant to your model.
