Default Mechanism Engaging/Disengaging Below Driver-Side of Rear Seats?

Hey guys, first Jaguar and first post here.

After replacing my battery on my '88, it's making a sound from below or next to the rear seat (much more audible with seat removed) on the driver side, that almost sounds like the automatic locks engaging/disengaging on modern cars, and it seems to be engaging and disengaging periodically, at specific intervals. Probably the reason my battery died. Does anyone know what this might be, or where I should start looking?

Thank you in advance,
ACHERAX

Welcome to the Forums.

A few things to clarify 1st and foremost.

1) You and the car are where in the world, markets change stuff??
2) Ragtop or Coupe, it matters.
3) Drivers side/Passengers side, DUH, depends on #1 above.

Possibly the electric antenna, but at 5 coffees in and Downunder, just a guess.

Please help us to help you, fill in the blanks.

Good luck.

Jeez, I really should have thought of that since it's not an American car. Thank you

1) The car is LHD, I'm in the US
2) Coupe
3) Left hand side (driver for me)

I appreciate the assistance! Thank you again

Possibly something in the motorized seat belt system? (If yours has the motorized belts. The earliest USA 1988 cars didn't)

Cheers

Mine does have this, but the sound comes from the rear of the car (unless the rear belts are motorized?). I can hear the sound about 3 times as loud when I pull the rear seat bed up, leading me to believe it's something inside behind my door or below my rear seats, but I can't get my head under to see well.

The loudest place I've heard the sound, including sticking my head under the car, has been in the back seat of the car, with the rear seats pulled up. It sounds like some kind of mechanical whirring, but only very briefly. I will try to get my battery jumped (it did die) and get a video of the sound and location of it

Well, there's the fuel pump in the trunk, down low, near the spare tire.

Further aft, the electric antenna.

That's all I can think of at the moment

That sounds about right, I was thinking it might be the fuel pump, since it's right by my fuel door, although that is the most concerning thing possible since that really should NOT have power when my car is turned off... but I will start with that, and come back if that's not it.

Thank you again!

Easy find for the pump.

Look behind the trim panel in the boot on the RH side. It simply slides out by design. It will reveal a few things, BUT the 2 relays are your focus.

The relay in the RED base is the main relay.
The relay in the BLACK base is the pump relay.

The Main relay "turns on" the Pump relay, and other things, soooo, remove the Pump relay, listen for your noise.

These relays get tired as they age, especially the Pump relay. As the Pump ages it draws more current, and the relay sticks in the closed position, flat battery soon follows.

If the noise is gone, that Pump is on its last legs, they are rarely heard inside the beast. NOTHING special, used by GM, Ford, Merc, BMW, etc etc.

I have only ever seen one car with those "lazy man" belts, and the motor etc is low down in the area alongside the rear seat base, and that car was a PITA with them, until we removed them.
