I don't know about the UK, but in the US rebuilt A/C compressors are something to be avoided like the plague. Lots of shady rebuilders out there. You really don't know what you are getting, or what parts failed to cause the compressor to fail in the first place. They are complicated with lots of close tolerance parts.
My advice is to either find someone who can replace the seal in yours, or buy new. There are aluminum bolt in replacements for the A6 compressor now, so you may want to look into them.
I agree, go with a new one from a reputable manufacturer rather than a rebuilt one.
The Harrison A6 model is a beast and has been around for a long time. (That means it works)
However there are lighter weight models out now. Jaguar went to a Sanden model at some point. Likely will need a new mounting bracket or find some spacers to secure it.
I've considered converting to a Sanden myself but its down the list of priorities for now.
In the end I went for a Sanden upgrade. I bought it from Fenair in the UK and it came with the compressor mounting brackets, pipes, pressure switch and wiring. Easy to fit and it didn't cost much more than a replacement Harrison type.
I've just had it gassed and I now have super chilled AC.. just in time for winter!
