Unhappy need serious help, overheating, gage don't work

hi ,

I bought a xjs 1987 this winter, the car was in storage since 6 years, now the car is on the road. After 1 month on the road, the trouble are back.

I think that the trouble is electrical, do you know if my jag have a voltage regulator or something like that?

1-the fuel gage don't work correctly, it always displays 1/4 or less
2- the oil pressure work one time on 3
3-the temperature gage is exceed normal

I don't know what to do and I'm worried about my temp I dont want to blow my engine

I change the two thermostats, flush prestone, change my 2 sending unit (oil pressure), change the float in the gaz tank and ( my 2 fan work correctly)

are this gage are connected together?

** sorry for my english I'm a french guy, i'm triying to do my best

could be just a bad ground to the instruments, but to make sure I'd first check the engine temp. Use a laser temp reader if you have one, or maybe borrow one from an auto repair shop.
If engine temp is good, then check your charging rate with a meter and the engine running. If those are both good, it's almost a sure bet you have a bad connection in the instrument panel.

The only thing that explains that temp gauge is overheating. Just like every other XJ-S owner in recorded history, you need to pull your radiator, have it professionally cleaned (BEST case scenario), and clean out the leaves and dirt in between the condenser and the radiator.

For the rest of the gauges, as mentioned, check the grounds. Check the grounds on the senders as well as the gauges too.

FWIW I agree with both Jamey and Darel. Bad grounds/contacts at the instrument cluster and clogged radiators are both well known XJS issues.

Cheers

How old are the radiator caps? My '92 I just purchased was running hot, and was low on coolant (not a lot) a number of times. I took a look at it and noticed that one of the radiator caps was stamped "Made in England". I'm guessing that it's probably original equipment?? (if it's like here in the states....they haven't produced a radiator cap domestically in many years) I have a radiator pressure tester, with an adapter to check the caps, but I didn't even bother, just bought 2 new caps and she's running just a hair under the middle line now.
