Do it. Looks solid and rust free... First biggie. Second, Sounds like you know how to turn a wrench or spanner, third you can't get hurt that bad if you get it for $3500 or less. Most Importantly it'll be a pain in your azs, but you sound like the right kind of person that will love every minute.

Probably already picked up, but not original rims either (save for the 1 star fish alloy). They look like they are off the XJ6 ?

Mate I'd walk away. Like alot of the other fellas are saying, there are plenty of other cheap examples around, and you'll have alot of trouble selling it too if you decide to later as the vinyl roof is after market and has the incorrect rims for the period.

Trust these guys mate. Alot of them helped me pick my XJS all the way in Australia last year (see link), all though it was previously maintained by the Wizard of Oz....speaking of which....where is Grant Francis lately?

Mate find another and put it on the table. We'll help you find a better one IMO

I think the car looks pretty good in the pictures. The vinyl top is up to you. Look and feel for lumps under the vinyl. I don't know how common these cars are in your area so I can see your point about it being local. Delivery can add a bunch of money to the price. You know your abilities so it's all just a matter of putting the work in. I'm looking at getting into fixer myself. The important thing is to get it at the right price. These cars are really common in Ca. and non or poor running cars are advertised at a thousand dollars or less. Good luck.

Hi Justin

'All that Glitters isn't Gold'

Why on earth do you want to put yourself through so much pain and suffering.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if the entire Suspension needed re bushing, with new Callipers and Rotors just for Starters.

If the Speedo isn't working, how do you know the Mileage is Correct? She could have been round the Clock a couple of times.

If She's was running Hot on your Test Drive, then it stands to reason She's been running Hot before and the Engine could have been 'cooked' with the potential to 'drop a valve just around the corner.

As has now already been said.

What's that Vinyl Covering up, what are those wheel arch covers hiding?

This Car will end up costing you a fortune.

With all the things that are wrong with it, as you have described, I can't ever see them selling it.

To me its just a 'Parts Car' Save your money and run away from this one as fast as you can.

Don't go and buy the first one you see, a better one will eventually turn up.

The trip computer and speedo not working means the transducer failed, not a fuse. Wheels are from a Series 2 XJ6, so not original.

Myself, I wouldn't touch it. There is too much wrong that other cars won't have wrong for similar prices. My personal taste would be to get rid of the vinyl roof, both for appearance and because they trap water. That's probably going to mean a repaint, and that's never cheap. The wheel arches usually hide/create rust so I'm always suspicious of those.

Just remember two sayings: There is nothing more expensive than a cheap Jaguar; Always buy the best you can afford.

For what it costs, I think you can get a better starting point than this. Or perhaps I should say that for the purchase price plus parts to get this to a sound reliable car, you could just buy a very nice sound, reliable car.

Lightbulb 3K XJS

I'm an owner of a $3k XJS. I bought her two years ago this October. She's a California auto. A 1994 with 115k miles on the odometer. Absolutely rust free. I chose the six cylinder. I'm very pleased with Gloria. The convertible top is flawless. I suggest you get an XJS buyers guide.
Choose wisely.

You are comparing two completely different "animals" 6cyl & v12 , apples with oranges as they say.
